Some column print electronic time clocks however are able to be programmed to work in a "down the card" format, however the "across the card" format is most popular. Many can be set for manual (employees depress a button to select which IN or Out Column they are punching based on the time of day), or this can be programmed into some clocks for "fully automatic shifting" capabilities.
